For those unfamiliar with the Lorien Legacy series: know that you are not alone! This popular series of young adult science fiction novels is by Pittacus Lore, is apparently the coolest chunk of literature since Harry Potter (at least according to my fifteen year old brother) 😎
The books tell the story of a nine teenagers from the fictional planet “Lorien” that are being hunted here on Earth, by another alien race. These nine teenagers are members of an elite group of “Lorics” (people from Lorien, of course), who possess several special powers called “legacies”. Each teen also possesses a pendent containing a symbol that corresponds with their “number” as they stand in the lineup of the total nine of them. Each of these nine teenagers possesses a unique “pendent”.
So, I thought, why not create these pendents out of sugar, and place them all over a cake, for a kid who lives between the pages of these addicting science fiction novels?!
Inspired by the book series, pendents, and a little color creativity, I was able to conjure up some cool color varieties, and use edible marker to draw (to the best of my ability), nine pendents to symbolize the nine gifted “Lorics” 😉
Before placing the pendents on the cake, I hand cut out an oval of fondant and spelled out Justin’s name with fondant lettering, courtesy of Wilton‘s super convenient sugar sheet alphabet.
The inside was a delicious white cake with a fudgey filling 🙂
